Dear Journal,
This is Addison! My mommy told me that I can write in this journal to tell everyone what is going on in my life. She said that she would save it for me and give it to me when I am older so that I can read all about what I did during my first year. Sounds pretty cool to me! I’ll try to remember to write when something exciting happens.
Today is my birthday! My mom and dad have been waiting for me for almost 9 months! My due date was tomorrow, but I decided to come a little early. In fact, I decided to start coming yesterday as a mother’s day present for my mommy!
Mom and dad went mall walking at Circle Center mall to try to get me to come out sooner than my due date of May 11th and it worked! Mommy’s water broke yesterday morning around 11am…daddy was in the Colts pro shop when mommy went to tell him the news. At first, they weren’t sure if it was really happening so they decided to go to one of their favorite restaurants, P.F. Changs for lunch. After lunch daddy decided it was time to call the doctor. The doctor said we should all go to the hospital to get checked out. Good thing mommy and daddy were prepared and had the car all packed. We went straight from the mall to the hospital!
We got to the hospital around 3 o'clock to make sure this was really going to happen. Guess what? We got admitted!. We got to go to the room I was delivered in around 4:30pm and they started mommy on medicine to help her have more contractions.
I wasn’t quite ready to get things moving yet, so mommy and daddy played some cards. Daddy beat mommy at double solitaire, but mommy said that was only because she had a big needle in her hand. A little later Grandma and Grandpa Lister came to see us. They helped entertain mommy so she wouldn’t feel me making those contractions start up. They played a game of hand and foot and of course, us ladies beat daddy and grandpa.
About 9:30 Grandma and Grandpa left and soon mommy’s contractions started getting pretty strong. She decided to request the epidural before it got too bad. Unfortunately it took quite awhile for the anesthesiologist to come to the room. When she finally did arrive, she couldn’t find the nurse. By this time my mom really wanted that medicine! It took about another half an hour for them to finally find each other. When they finally came in mommy and daddy were so happy to finally be able to get that medicine. Mommy did what they said and got into position so they could put the needle in.
After a few minutes mommy thought something might be wrong because she asked them how much longer and instead of answering they just said “you’re doing really well”. Apparently mommy’s spine is really hard to get a needle into because it took them almost 10 tries and another hour before they FINALLY got the epidural in. During this time mommy had to stay completely still in the same position and at the same time I was moving around and causing mommy some really bad contractions. It was not fun for any of us!!
By this time it was almost midnight and mommy felt much better now that the medicine was working but she was only dilated to 3cm. So she and daddy decided to go to sleep. The nurse came in around 2:30 and to her and mommy’s surprise mommy was now fully dilated! They paged Dr. Boyer and mommy and daddy waited for her to arrive!!
At 3:45 Dr. Boyer and Nurse Marilyn arrived and mommy started pushing. This went on for awhile because I was being very stubborn. In fact Dr. Boyer soon realized that instead of having my head straight I kept turning it to the right every time my mommy pushed. The doctor joked that I must have been looking toward daddy since he was standing on that side of mommy.
I kept this up for about another hour and towards the end the doctor thought she may have to use a vacuum to help me come out. Well, I heard this from inside mommy’s tummy and thought, “NO WAY!”. I didn’t want her to have to use that so I decided it was time to make my big entrance. So at 5:13am on May 10, 2010 I decided to come out and meet my mommy and daddy. They cleaned me off and told me I weighed 7lbs 3 oz and that I was 20 inches.
Finally I got to meet my mommy and she held me so tight! One of the first things she said after she met me was, “Wow, you have daddy’s eyes!”. Then, I got to meet daddy. He held me and had a big smile on his face. Suddenly, we were all a big happy family.
Today was a whirlwind! Since I came so early in the morning mommy and daddy didn’t get any sleep until MUCH later tonight. But that was okay, because look how cute I was!

(1:34pm)I had lots of visitors. Grandma and Grandpa Lister came back to the hospital as soon as they heard mommy was pushing, so they got to come see me when I was only a half an hour old! Auntie Katie came all the way from Ft. Wayne to see me! I only got to see her for about 10 minutes but mommy and I were so happy that she made the trip just for me!
Soon after she left my Grandma and Grandpa Harasim came. I’m their first grandchild and they were super excited to see me. I sure love them a whole lot!!! They took daddy out to lunch to celebrate my birthday and mommy and I got to take a much needed nap for a few minutes.
A little while later Uncle Pat and Aunt Amy came to see me. They sure looked like fun! I can’t wait to meet my cousins sometime soon. They were super nice and took daddy out to his favorite Mexican restaurant. While they were gone one of daddy’s bosses Andrea came to see me. She got to hold me while we waited for daddy to get back. She even brought me a great big basket of awesome baby stuff from Target! I’m not even one day old and I LOVE that place!!!
Now everyone has left for night and me and my new parents have gotten to relax and enjoy each other for a few hours. Mommy just called the nurse and they are going to take me to the nursery for a few hours so all of us can sleep. But don’t worry mommy, when I get hungry in the middle of the night I’m going to let the nurses know and they will bring me right back to you!
